The Real Riley Mayes

By: Rachel Elliott

This is a funny story that has a lot of heart and a very likable character.

Riley tells us "5th grade isn't my kind of vibe" in this middle grade graphic novel. Her vibe is drawing and making people laugh. She struggles to make friends who get the Real Riley Mayes, even as she tries to figure out exactly who that is. Riley tries to stay out of trouble and learns to give and get second chances. She learns to stand up for herself as she considers "how do I know if I am gay?"
